(MYFOX NATIONAL) - On Thursday the mother of the balloon boy called 911 to report a mishap involving her son and the Mylar balloon. TMZ posted the audio of the call Friday morning. ( Listen to the whole recording here.)

A hysterical Mayumi Heene is difficult to understand and the 911 operator has trouble following what she is saying. Eventually Richard Heene, the boy's father, gets on the line.

The operator asks the father, "How long has the 6-year-old been missing?" Heene answers, "Just a few minutes."

The operator then asks, "Was the flying saucer in the backyard?" Heene replies "yes."

"It obviously has electronics. So he knows how to work it. So he can get it off the ground," the operator continues.

"No, he doesn't know how to operate it," Heene responds.

The operator then tries to clarify, "We're sure that he's in that [the saucer]."

Heene answers, "Yes, we looked everywhere. And my son just ... verified. He said he went inside just before it went off. We had it tethered. It wasn't supposed to take off."

Heene also worries that a machine in the balloon could electrocute his son or that another aircraft could strike the balloon.

The operator also asks if the boy knows how to land the balloon and Heene responds that he does not.

After traveling for over two hours, the balloon came down easily in northern Colorado. The 6-year-old boy, Falcon, was never in the balloon and instead was found safe at his home hiding in the rafters of his garage at his Fort Collins home.

Authorities are now investigating whether Thursday's events were all part of a hoax. Falcon said in an interview on CNN that his father said they "said that we did this for a show." The family has repeatedly denied that it was a publicity stunt.
