Rescued Hedgehogs

Natasha Chughtai

Salem - Salem has its own hedgehog welfare society, and the organizers just helped hundreds of these little exotic animals. About 600 of them were rescued from a pet wholesale company, in Arlington, Texas late last year. The hedgehogs lived in horrible conditions, stack on top of each other in bends like baseballs. Now they are being placed everywhere in the United States in loving homes. “I’ve had jealous hedgehogs. I’ve had hedgehogs that wanted respect, and bit me when they didn’t get it. I had one that stuck a toilet paper tube on top of its head, and wouldn’t take it off except to eat, Vicki Mclean explains. Hedgehog lovers should be cautioned, before you go and adopt one of these little guys, know that their quills are pretty sharp, and they eat live insects.
